The Evolution Performance Driving School, the number one name in driver’s education since 1993 is set to debut a new solo event format for 2012, the Evolution Super Shootout. This two-day event is a hybrid between SCCA’s National Tour and Pro Solo formats, and takes a portion of each entry and places it into a prize fund to be distributed to the top 10% of the Sunday Super Shootout winners. This format has Howard Duncan VP SCCA Rally/Solo very excited about the possibilities, and we at Evolution look at this as a great opportunity to build the sport, by providing this stepping stone to SCCA National Level Solo.

The Evolution Super Shootout features a four run event where all class winners and 32 of the 64 Super Shootout qualifiers are determined. These top 32 qualifiers are determined from the events overall PAX results, and are then locked into their positions for the Sunday Super Shootout. Once these folks are locked in, the rest of the competitors get a second chance at the Super Shootout with our Last Chance Qualifier. The LCQ allows these remaining competitors two runs to try and position their self into the top 48 positions in the PAX. Following the LCQ the top four ladies class competitors are brought into the Super Shootout bringing the total number thus far to 52. The remaining 12 Super Shootout positions will be from a random drawing of any that have not made the top 52 spots, bringing the total to 64.

With the Super Shootout field complete, we break the 64 competitors into a four bracket system, with the top 4 qualifiers taking the number one seed in each bracket. The first round of each bracket will allow one warm up run before the money rounds start. The Super Shootout will also run on a PAX system where each pairing will run heads up with the winner advancing to the next round, and the winners of each bracket running for the top spot worth over $2,500 in cash and prizes.

The following is a tentative schedule for the Evolution Super Shootouts:

  • April 21-22 - ZMax Dragway Concord, NC - TSCC CCRSCCA
  • May 5-6 - Atlanta Motor Speedway Hampton, GA - Atlanta Region SCCA
  • June 30-July 1 - Dover International Raceway Dover, DE - Philly SCCA
  • Additional Date(s) TBA

BFGOODRICH® TIRES NAMED OFFICIAL TIRE OF EVOLUTION PERFORMANCE DRIVING SCHOOL

Partnership includes presenting sponsorship of Super Shootout Events

GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 11, 2013) – BFGoodrich® Tires has signed on to become the official tire of the Evolution Performance Driving School, North America’s preeminent autocross school, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Offering four levels of instruction and touting national caliber instructors, Evolution Performance Driving School trains participants from the beginning autocross driver to those competing for national championships.

“For 20 years, Evolution has been the nation’s leader in autocross driving instruction,” said Peter Calhoun, motorsports manager for BFGoodrich Tires. “It was only natural for BFGoodrich to partner with Evolution with the launch of the new g-Force™ Rival® and the growing popularity of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) street touring and road tire autocross classes.”

The agreement also names BFGoodrich as the presenting sponsor of Evolution’s involvement with the SCCA and the Tire Rack Match Tour events to be called the Evolution Super Shootout presented by BFGoodrich Tires.

The racing events pit 64 cars in an elimination bracket competition to be held at all eight Match Tour events in Cecil, Ga., Wilmington, Ohio, Peru, Ind., Mineral Wells, Texas, Fountain, Colo., Milwaukee, Wis., Ayer, Mass., Blytheville, Ark. and St. George, Utah.

"The partnership between BFGoodrich and the Evolution Performance Driving School brings together more than 50 years of experience in winning championships,” said Mike “Junior” Johnson, president of Evolution Performance Driving School. “As motorsports enthusiasts it really doesn’t get much better than that.

Earlier this year, BFGoodrich Tires announced an extension of its partnership with SCCA as the “Official Street Tire of the SCCA” and as title sponsor of the BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour club racing events.
